Why glue laminate flooring. Glue down laminate flooring is generally thought of as higher quality than the floating floor variety. The glue can help strengthen the installation of the floor preventing it from being removed accidentally with use. Because of the way it is installed there isn t a hollow sound when walking across the floor or a spongy feel this is something that can be an issue with floating floors if they aren t installed perfectly and with optimal conditions. Problems like this are not caused by shrinkage but rather by sliding apart of pieces of flooring.
Using glue for laminate flooring ensures your flooring remains durable. Also use glue in areas where spills and the presence of liquid are a high possibility like the kitchen or near the sink. This gap between the ends of pieces of laminate flooring is being fixed with glue. Because your laminate is glued directly to the subfloor it makes it less likely for the planks to rise from moisture damage.
Laminate flooring offers speedy installation a tough surface and freedom from finishing fumes in your home but this stuff isn t completely foolproof. Glue is actually sometimes used on laminate planks but not to fix it to the sub floor but to attach the planks to one another by their tongue and groove members. This essentially makes the laminate flooring water resistant.
