Why Is My Hardwood Floor Chipping

Why is my hardwood floor chipping. This often leads to some head scratching trying to figure out how it happened. For example it s not uncommon for old floors to start peeling as the old polyurethane topcoat starts to deteriorate. Im having an issue with my engineered wood floors which were installed in my condo almost 5 years ago on top of the original cement floors which were already 20 years old. Well i laid engineered hardwood down about just a little under 700 square feet.

Peeling finish can be a frustrating issue for floor finishers. Why are my hardwood floors splitting. Nobody likes to see polyurethane peel especially just after refinishing the floor. And unfortunately that s when hardwood floor splitting also known as checking is most likely to occur.

I install wide plank flooring when it has a slightly high moisture content. And the problem is is the top 3 millimeter layer is starting to peel up on a few of the boards. Engineered flooring or quartersawn flooring is the best choice for my home because they re less susceptible to movement.

I used an oil based stain and followed that with an oil based poly. I have refinished multiple dressers tables chairs beds etc.
